PAD Chapbook Challenge Day Seven: Hardship Poem

First and Last
The first time was an accident
Both of them were drunk

She yelled her words
He responded with his fists
Neither of them knew better than this
The apology came quickly
He spoke his words so quietly and sweetly

Telling her you complete me
For every hit, an apology
A flower for every lost drop of blood

Chocolates for each bruise her makeup covered up
A teddy bear for every lie about a fall
An excuse for it all

The last time wasn't an accident
Both of them were drunk

He drew his fist
So she drew her gun

He won't be hurting her anymore
